Stockwell sits in one of the most well-connected corners of South London — bordered by Brixton, Clapham, Kennington and Vauxhall, with excellent transport links and a genuine community feel that makes it a fantastic place to own a dog. It's an urban area in the truest sense, with busy roads, lively streets and constant activity — and that means the training challenges Stockwell dog owners face are real, daily and often quite demanding.

Slade Gardens is Stockwell's standout green space for dog owners — and it's a genuinely excellent one. Situated between Brixton and Stockwell, this medium-sized park contains one of the best dedicated dog exercise areas in Lambeth: a large fenced enclosure measuring 70 metres by 20 metres, with a safe, well-maintained perimeter that's suitable for dogs of all sizes including small breeds. It's a brilliant place to begin building off-lead reliability and recall in a controlled environment, and the steady flow of local dog owners means it's also one of the best spots in the area for socialisation work — helping your dog learn to share space calmly and confidently with other dogs in a safe, enclosed setting before taking those skills out into the wider world.

A short distance away, Myatt's Fields Park in Camberwell is one of the finest Victorian parks in South London — a Grade II registered park designed by Fanny Rollo Wilkinson, one of the first professional women landscape gardeners in the country, and first opened to the public in 1889. It still retains many of its original features including the bandstand, summerhouse and the original network of paths. For dog owners it holds another distinction: a large, well-maintained dedicated dog exercise area of approximately 2,500 square metres next to the tennis courts — one of the biggest and most well-regarded enclosed dog spaces in the borough. For dogs that need serious space to run, build confidence and practise recall before graduating to open parks, Myatt's Fields is exceptional.

Kennington Park rounds out Stockwell's green space options with a completely different character — a fascinating Victorian park with a rich history, beautiful flower gardens, diverse wildlife and an active local dog walking community. It's a park with genuine life to it: sports pitches, an iconic skatebowl, outdoor gym and the steady, unpredictable bustle of a well-used community park that provides exactly the kind of real-world distraction training environment that actually prepares your dog for everyday life.

I'm based on Leander Road in Brixton — a short distance from Stockwell — and I work with dog owners across the area regularly. My sessions begin at my training facility near Brockwell Park before progressing into the environments you actually walk in every day. Home visits are available across Stockwell for puppy set-ups, one-to-one training sessions and behaviour consultations.
