Dog Trainer in East Dulwich, South London

East Dulwich is one of South London's most characterful and community-minded areas — and it's a genuinely brilliant place to own a dog. The area has a distinct personality all of its own: the independent shops and cafés of Lordship Lane, the Saturday market on North Cross Road, the dog-friendly pubs, the tree-lined streets of Victorian villas — and sitting right at the edge of it all, some of the finest green spaces in the whole of South London.

Peckham Rye Park and Common is the jewel in East Dulwich's crown. Just a short walk from Lordship Lane, this stunning 113-acre stretch of grassland, woodland, ornamental gardens, a Japanese garden, a duck pond, a lake and a community wildlife garden is one of the finest parks in South London. It's a genuinely brilliant place to walk your dog — but it's also a busy, well-used park with off-lead dogs on the Common, cyclists, joggers, children and the annual Summer Fete and Dog Show every September drawing huge crowds. For a dog that hasn't been properly trained, all of that variety can quickly become overwhelming. For a well-trained dog, it's heaven.

Cox's Walk is one of East Dulwich's hidden gems — a beautiful ancient woodland path that connects Dulwich Park to the edge of Sydenham Hill Wood, following a route that has existed since at least the early 18th century. Named after the innkeeper Francis Cox who laid it out in 1705, it runs through dense canopy and dappled light alongside a stream, with the kind of rich sensory environment that makes it extraordinary for dogs who love to sniff and explore. The dense woodland also demands a dog with solid recall and genuine off-lead reliability — which is exactly where I come in.

Dulwich Park itself sits just a short distance away — a stunning 29-hectare Green Flag park with wide paths, a boating lake, the famous American Garden and a dedicated off-lead perimeter path. Together with Peckham Rye, Cox's Walk and the proximity to Sydenham Hill Wood, East Dulwich dog owners have access to an extraordinary variety of walking environments — and each one presents its own distinct training challenges and opportunities.

I'm based in Brixton, SW2, just a short distance from East Dulwich, and I work with dog owners across the area regularly. My sessions begin at my training facility near Brockwell Park before progressing into real-world environments — including Peckham Rye, Cox's Walk and Dulwich Park — building gradually as your dog develops confidence and skill. I'll teach you how to walk your dog on a loose lead whatever is going on around you, how to manage sniffing appropriately, how to handle greetings with other dogs calmly, and how to build the kind of reliable recall that gives you genuine freedom in a woodland like Cox's Walk or an open common like Peckham Rye.

Home visits are available across East Dulwich for puppy set-ups, one-to-one training sessions and behaviour consultations. I travel by bicycle so getting to you is never a problem — just get in touch and we'll arrange it.

Whatever the challenge — reactivity, loose lead walking, recall, puppy training, separation anxiety or general obedience — I work with both you and your dog to create lasting, real-world change.
