Norwood Park is the area's hidden gem. A 13-hectare park on one of the highest points in Lambeth, it has spectacular panoramic views stretching from Dulwich Woods across to the Docklands and central London — not a bad backdrop for a training session. It's a park with real character: a tree-lined country walk developed alongside the railway embankment, a fenced wildlife pond, extensive native hedgerows and open meadow grassland. The park is also a key site within the London Wildlife Trust's Great North Wood project, recognising the ancient oak forest that once covered much of South London. For dog owners, it offers open grass, natural trails and enough variation in terrain to make every walk feel genuinely different.

Just a short distance away, Crystal Palace Park is one of the most extraordinary parks in all of South London — and one of the most challenging for dogs. Covering 196 acres of parkland, it's a park that has everything: sweeping open grassland, ornamental gardens, woodland, a boating lake, the famous Victorian dinosaur sculptures, a maze, a children's farm and a concert bowl that draws thousands of people for events throughout the year. On a busy weekend, Crystal Palace Park is genuinely one of the most sensory-rich environments you can walk a dog in anywhere in London. If your dog can handle Crystal Palace Park on a summer afternoon — calmly, on a loose lead, ignoring other dogs and the chaos around them — you've done something remarkable. That's exactly the kind of real-world resilience we work towards together.

South Norwood Country Park and its lake add another dimension entirely. A local nature reserve with long walking paths, open meadow, a serene lake and abundant wildlife including foxes, rabbits and extensive birdlife, it's a popular off-lead destination for local dog owners and presents its own training challenges — particularly around wildlife distraction, recall in open spaces and managing greetings with the many other dogs you'll encounter there.

I'm based in Brixton, SW2, a short distance from Norwood, and I work with dog owners across the area regularly. My sessions begin at my training facility near Brockwell Park before progressing into real-world environments — including the parks and streets you actually use every day.
