Canine Behaviourist & Balanced Dog Trainer in Brockwell Park & Herne Hill
Brockwell Park is my office, my training ground and one of my favourite places on earth. As a dog trainer based just a short walk away on in Brixton, I'm here almost every single day — training dogs, walking dogs in my care, running socialisation sessions and working with clients in one of the finest parks in the whole of London.
And what a park it is. Spanning 126 acres between Brixton, Herne Hill and Tulse Hill, Brockwell Park has something for everyone. The ornamental duck ponds, the historic Brockwell Hall sitting proudly at the top of the hill with panoramic views across London, the legendary Art Deco Lido, the walled garden, the wildflower meadows, the BMX track, the tennis courts, the miniature railway and one of the best cafés in South London. It's a genuine community treasure that attracts almost 4 million visits a year — and it shows. On a warm summer's day it is absolutely buzzing.
Which is precisely why it can be such a challenging environment for a dog that hasn't been properly trained.
In the summer months especially, Brockwell Park transforms entirely. The Lambeth Country Show draws huge crowds, alongside music events, picnics, kite flyers, families, cyclists, joggers, and off-lead dogs everywhere. It is a sensory overload for any dog, and a true test for any owner. Even in the quieter months, it remains one of the most densely dog-walked spaces in South London, meaning your dog will encounter others constantly. Without the right training and handling, what should be a relaxing daily walk can quickly become stressful, embarrassing, or even dangerous.
I know every corner of this park. I know where the distractions are heaviest, where the best training spots are, and how to use the environment progressively—starting in quieter areas and building gradually towards the busiest paths as your dog’s skills develop. Whether we are working on loose-lead walking along the main avenues, practising recall in the lower meadows, managing greetings near the ponds, or building your dog’s focus around the chaos of a busy summer afternoon, is the ultimate real-world training environment.
Our park sessions typically begin outside The Glassmaker's Café at Brockwell Hall, where we can complete a brief initial assessment before progressing directly into hands-on training. I will show you how to maintain a loose lead no matter what is happening around you, how to manage sniffing—knowing when to allow it and when to redirect—and how to handle dog-to-dog greetings calmly. You will gain everything you need to enjoy a safe, stress-free walking experience in London.
