Dog Trainer in Herne Hill, South London

Herne Hill is one of South London's most quietly extraordinary areas — a leafy, characterful village that sits right on the doorstep of Brockwell Park and carries more history per square mile than almost anywhere else in the capital. For dog owners it is, quite simply, one of the finest places to live in London. And for a dog trainer based just a short walk away on Leander Road in Brixton, it's also one of my favourite places to work.

Brockwell Park is the obvious starting point. The main entrance on Norwood Road is just moments from Herne Hill station, making it the most accessible entrance to the park for Herne Hill residents — and the one I use most often. At 126 acres of hillside parkland, Brockwell is extraordinary: the Grade II* listed Brockwell Hall at the summit with panoramic views across the London skyline, the legendary Art Deco Lido, the ornamental duck ponds, the walled flower garden, the wildflower meadows, the miniature railway, the BMX track and some of the finest walking paths in South London. I train here almost every single day. I know every corner of it, every distraction point, every quiet training spot and every busy stretch of path where your dog's focus and loose lead skills will be genuinely tested. It is, without question, the finest real-world training environment I could ask for.

But Herne Hill has more to offer dog owners than just Brockwell Park. Sunray Gardens is one of the area's best-kept secrets — a beautiful, tranquil little park tucked away near the junction of Elmwood Road and Red Post Hill, centred around a lake that was originally the fish pond of an elegant 18th-century mansion called Casino House. It's exactly the kind of quieter, more controlled environment that's ideal for dogs in the early stages of training — calmer, less intense than Brockwell, with just enough interest and gentle distraction to make sessions productive without being overwhelming.

I'm based on Leander Road in Brixton — a short walk from Herne Hill station and Brockwell Park — and I work with dog owners across the area regularly. My sessions begin at my home in Brixton, before progressing into Brockwell Park and the streets and green spaces of Herne Hill itself. Home visits are available for puppy set-ups, one-to-one training sessions and behaviour consultations.

Whatever the challenge — reactivity, loose lead walking, recall, puppy training, separation anxiety or general obedience — I work with both you and your dog to create lasting, real-world change.
