Dog Trainer in Kennington, South London

Kennington is one of inner South London's most densely populated and characterful areas — a neighbourhood of Victorian terraces, flat conversions and young professionals sitting in the shadow of the Oval, just a short walk from the Thames and within easy reach of central London. It's also an area where owning a dog presents very specific challenges. The streets are busy, the pavements are narrow, the traffic is constant and the opportunities for off-lead exercise are genuinely limited compared to leafier parts of South London. Which means the quality of your dog's training matters more here than almost anywhere else.

Kennington Park is the area's green anchor — and it's a brilliant one. Spanning 34 acres on the site of the historic Kennington Common, it's one of South London's oldest and most loved parks. The Victorian areas are Grade II listed and the park holds a Green Flag Award, a Green Heritage Award and has been named both Park of the Year and Walled Garden of the Year by London in Bloom. It has winding paths, mature trees, an old English flower garden, rose beds, a café and two dedicated dog exercise areas — one in the northern section and one in the southern section — making it genuinely well set up for dog owners. There's also an active dog walking community here, which means your dog will regularly encounter other dogs, joggers, cyclists, children and the full spectrum of urban distractions. Kennington Park is not a quiet park. It's a real-world training environment in the truest sense.

Historically, Kennington Common was the site of extraordinary events. In April 1848, over 150,000 Chartist supporters gathered here before marching on Parliament to deliver their petition for democratic reform. The common was subsequently enclosed and transformed into the park that exists today — a place that has been at the heart of the Kennington community ever since. It has character, history and a genuine sense of place that makes it a pleasure to train in.

Beyond Kennington Park, Vauxhall Park is just a short walk away — a beautifully kept 8.5-acre park with two fenced dog exercise areas and a strong community of dog owners. Lambeth Walk Open Space adds another enclosed option nearby for dogs still building their off-lead confidence. And for owners who want to progress into more challenging environments, the proximity to the Thames Path, Battersea Park and the open spaces of Clapham Common means there's no shortage of real-world training ground to work towards.

I'm based in Brixton, SW2, a short distance from Kennington, and I work with dog owners across the area regularly. My sessions begin at my training facility near Brockwell Park before progressing into real-world environments — including Kennington Park's dog exercise areas and the streets and spaces you actually use every day. I'll teach you how to walk your dog on a loose lead whatever is happening around you, how to manage greetings with other dogs calmly and confidently, and how to build the kind of focus and reliability that makes daily life in a busy urban neighbourhood genuinely enjoyable. Home visits are available across Kennington for puppy set-ups, one-to-one training sessions and behaviour consultations. I travel by bicycle so getting to you is never a problem.

Whatever the challenge — reactivity, loose lead walking, recall, puppy training, separation anxiety or general obedience — I work with both you and your dog to create lasting, real-world change.
