Peckham is one of South London's most vibrant and characterful areas — and for dog owners, it's home to one of the finest green spaces in the whole of South London. Peckham Rye Park and Common is a stunning 113-acre stretch of grassland, woodland, ornamental gardens, a Japanese garden, a duck pond, a lake and a community wildlife garden. It's a genuinely brilliant place to walk your dog, and with the café, open spaces and wooded trails, there's something different to explore every single visit.

But Peckham Rye is also a busy, popular park — and with that comes real challenges. Whether it's other dogs off lead on the Common, children running towards your dog, cyclists cutting through the paths, or the annual Summer Fete and Dog Show drawing huge crowds in September, there are plenty of situations that can quickly become stressful if your dog hasn't been trained to handle them confidently.

I'm based in Brixton, SW2, a short distance from Peckham, and I work with dog owners across the area regularly. I know Peckham Rye well and use it as a real-world training environment — because there's no point training your dog in a quiet field if the challenges you actually face are on a busy common full of distractions.

My sessions start at my training facility near Brockwell Park before progressing into environments like Peckham Rye, building gradually so your dog develops genuine skills in the places that matter most to you. I'll teach you how to walk your dog on a loose lead regardless of what's going on around you, how to manage sniffing — when to allow it and when to redirect — and how to handle greetings with other dogs calmly and appropriately, including knowing when not to allow them at all.
